MIZORAM, literally the land of the Mizos, is an expanse of blue green hills standing aloof and withdrawn ad the southern extreme of the North-East India. Flanked by Bangladesh and Tripura in the west, Myanmar in the east and south, and Assam and Manipur in the north. Mizoram continues to be one of the most peaceful States of India.
Mizoram enjoys a pleasant climate, the temperature ranges between 11°C - 21 °C in winter and between 20°C - 30 °C in summer. The tropical forests of mizoram abound in a wide variety of flora and fauna. With its galaxy of festivals and dances, handicrafts, flora and fauna, intense natural beauty and temperate climate, Mizoram is a kaleidoscopic 'pleasant trove' for the discerning visitor.
THE MIZOS
The Mizos celebrate their biggest and liveliest festival 'Chapchar kut' in mid-March every year. The festival showcases vividly the traditional dances of all the sub-tribes with great funfare. Aizawl, the Capital of Mizoram, is 180 km from Silchar, which is the nearest rail-head. Road journey from Silchar to Aizawl takes about 6 hours. There are also daily flights from Kolkata and Guwahati to Lengpui Airport, Aizawl.
